Financial life(style): Easy ways to earn extra cash / money in a tight month

We all have those months where we can't make ends meet (such as January for example) therefore I thought I would share some of my easy methods of earning some extra cash with you.

  • Car wash in your backyard or at a public place - On a weekend you could open up your yard to those in need of a car wash. Just make sure to place a sign out front and within a few weekends you will be packed with cars. Get some neighbours involved too so that you can share the workload. Alternatively you could get permission from a shop owner to offer a car washing service in his/her parking lot over a weekend.

  • Selling of baked goods - If you can bake, why not bake up a few batches of cupcakes or fudge to order? Just spread the news of your baking amongst your neighbours, friends and colleagues, and before you know it you will have orders coming out of your ears. I did this for years when I was in need of an extra income, and you can really earn quite a bit this way. Just make sure that those who place orders realise that you only bake once or twice a week and that you also do not take on more orders than you can handle.

  • Mowing lawns - Own a lawnmower? Then why not make some extra dough by offering to mow the lawns of your neighbours (or others) over the weekend? The fresh air and exercise would be great for you as well. Just make sure to wear a pollen mask at all times whilst mowing, since the dust and other particles that become airborne during a mowing session, can congest your sinuses like crazy (especially if you are mowing many lawns in one day).

  • Selling unused good on E-bay or other similar websites - We all have extra goods stashed away in our cupboards or in the attic/garage. Why hold onto these if you are never going to use them? Remember, "one man's trash is another man's treasure"- (Hector Urquhart).

  • Renting out an extra room in your home - If you have a spare, unused room in your home, you could always rent it out for a few months if money is tight. There are numerous websites online that make provision for the advertising of these. Just Google the name of the country you live in, with the words, "spare room for rent" at the back, to find such websites in your specific country or area. On an extra note, always do a background check on any prospective renters, since you don't want to have a psychotic killer or sex fiend living in your house with you and your family.

  • Offering a house-sitting service to those who know and trust you - Many people don't take vacations due to the fear of having their homes broken into. You could offer your services (at a set fee), as a live-in minder for your friends, colleagues, neighbours and family when they are planning a trip. The fact that someone will be living in their house (and as a result will be able to take care of their garden and pets) will ease their burdens greatly. In the end you might even earn a bonus, due to the peace of mind you have created/given.

And that's that. If you have any other tips to add, please feel free to do so in the comments section below.

Life/Love Challenges: The easiest way to break up with someone

We all have to face the "not so nice" issue of having to break up with someone at least once in our lives. It is a subject so awkward in nature that many tend to stay in loveless relationships, due to the fact that breakups in general are such a "trip to hell and back".

Today I am going to make your life a little simpler by telling you that there is indeed an easier way to face the awful reality, of having to break if off with someone that it just isn't working out with (without having to skip the country).

The main trick is to plan the "event" very carefully and practice what you are going to say (and do) in advance. That way you will come across as being more sincere and less like a jerk.

When you are planning the "breakup event", be sure to pick a neutral spot with no significance to your relationship. In other words, a non-romantic, very public place, without connotations to your doomed romance. Remember, we don't want the other party to get the wrong idea and assume that this is some kind of special date you have planned (or even worse, a proposal).

As you are planning on what you are going to say, take note to be honest but not too harsh in your wording. Try and "tone down" the truth a bit. Meaning, be as honest as possible, without being too honest, aka tell a "nicer" version of the truth.

It is always a good idea to blame yourself in your speech, as opposed to telling a toned down and nicer truth, but just don't use the classic "it’s not you it’s me cliché", which must be the oldest one in the book (as well as the worst). Rather say something in the lines of, "I am in such a bad place mentally right now that it won't be fair to you if we stay in this relationship at this point in time. All I am going to do is mess up your life and trust me you will learn to resent me for it. We can always try and resume things at a later stage when I am in a better frame of mind". This might sound cheesy and it might be totally untrue, however it is much better than saying to someone, "hey, I want to break up because you suck".

If you go about things in a nice way the other person will react to the news much better. Be warned though that you do get a few types of people that will fly off at you regardless of the way you go about all this, but by breaking up in a "nicer" way, the normal future resentment that comes with breakups is not likely to stick.

Just don't ever make the mistake of trying to break up with someone over the phone, via a text or via any other non face to face form. This is bound to turn out badly and it will make you look like someone who doesn't care at all.

Use compassion, plan decently, blame yourself or tell a toned down truth, act as if you do care about the other persons’ feelings and make sure you go about things in an overall nice way. This will guarantee you the least painful and smoothest split possible.

Good luck and may you have better fortune in finding true love in the future.

Love Life: Don't go chasing love, let love find you!

In a previous post namely; "Mental Health: Do you feel unsatisfied with your life?", I mentioned how we all deserve to have fantastic (romantic) relationships. This made me think about a mistake that so many people make in their love lives. People go "running after love".

Everyone has a perfect match somewhere out there, unfortunately the tricky part tends to be finding them. Just don't go out "looking for love" though. In my opinion this is one of the worst things you can do (and one of the main reasons for sky high worldwide divorce rates).

I am very fortunate and blessed when it comes to love, but there is one simple reason for this. I never went chasing after love. I simply let love find me.

When we are lonely, we tend to make hasty decisions regarding love and if you go out looking for love just because you cannot take being alone any more, you are bound to land up with the wrong person. Yes it might be true that in some cases, people have managed to find their soul mates in this way, however, this is very rare. The chances of landing up with someone you are likely to call your ex one day is much, much more likely when you go about things in this manner.

You see the trick to finding your soul mate is firstly getting to know the person, before you can start falling in love with them, or before you can really say you are in love. Ask yourself, how can you honestly say you love someone if you don't really know anything about them yet? There is no such thing as true love at first sight. Love is something that needs to be built up (and continuously built onto).

When we are lonely or on the rebound, anyone is bound to look good in our eyes because in our subconscious we are so desperate, we are telling ourselves how amazing they are or how perfect they seem for us. This is the danger we face when we go out looking for love or romantic relationships. We jump and rush in.

Don't rush into things! True love takes time! Remember, there is a huge difference between real love, lust, attraction and temporary passion. Don't be blindsided! Just look at the relationships of celebrities and then compare those to the relationship your grandpa and grandma had or even the relationship your parents have (if they are still married to each other). Trust me, you will notice the huge difference.

"But I am lonely", some might say. This is no excuse. If you are really that lonely, spend time with family, friends, or take up a new hobby. Just don't go out trying to find love. Love will find you when the time is right.

But just how do we then allow love to find us? It is simple. Go out, visit with your family and friends, take on new hobbies, just live your life and don't be an indoors house hermit. You are bound to meet new people this way and get to know others you might have already met better, and who knows, just one of them might land up being THE ONE (once you have taken the time to get to know them better and love blossoms naturally of course). Socialise as much as possible! Interaction with others is the key here to make this all work.

Bear in mind though, that when I say Interaction, I mean real, physical interaction and not conversing on social media. This is looking for trouble because no one is their "real selves" on these platforms. The only way to honestly and truly get to know someone on a deeper level is by mixing with them in person, and not through typing to each other.

Go on, get mingling and remember that life is short so do things the right way and spare yourself unnecessary heartache and hassles.
